Machinist

SBI Manufacturing is seeking a skilled and experienced CNC Machinist to join our team and contribute to the efficient and precise production of our machining center. The CNC Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating computer numerical control (CNC) machines to produce precision parts and components. They interpret technical drawings, program CNC machines, select appropriate tooling, and monitor machine operation to ensure accurate and high-quality machining. The CNC Machinist collaborates with engineering teams to optimize machining processes and performs routine maintenance tasks on CNC machines. They play a vital role in maintaining production efficiency and meeting customers. We are a small family-owned business which has steadily grown in size for over 17 years located on the south side of Sioux Falls, SD. Sioux Falls has been consistently one of the top 10 cities in the U.S. for livability.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Set up and operate CNC machines to produce precision parts and components.

Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, or CAD models to understand machining specifications and requirements.

Determine appropriate machining processes, tooling, and cutting parameters based on material type, dimensions, and tolerances.

Load and secure raw materials into the CNC machine, ensuring proper alignment and clamping for accurate machining.

Program CNC machines with machine specific programming languages to define tool paths, speeds, and feed rates.

Perform tool changes, tool offsets, and machine adjustments as necessary to maintain machine accuracy and quality.

Monitor machine operation, make regular measurements and inspections to verify part dimensions and quality, and adjust as needed.

Collaborate with engineering or design teams to troubleshoot and optimize machining processes for improved efficiency and quality.

Conduct routine maintenance tasks on CNC machines, such as lubrication, tool changes, and cleaning, to ensure optimal machine performance.

Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), to maintain a safe working environment.

Qualifications and Skills:

Proven experience as a CNC machinist or in a similar machining role.

Strong knowledge of machining principles, practices, and tooling.

Proficiency in operating and settling CNC machines, such as mills, lathes, or routers.

Familiarity with CNC machine programming languages.

Experience with precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.

Ability to interpret technical drawings, blueprints, or CAD models.

Excellent attention to detail and ability to work with precision to meet tight tolerances.

Solid problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot machining issues and adjust on the fly.

Good communication skills to work effectively with team members and communicate technical information.

Physical stamina and ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy materials, and perform repetitive tasks.

Ability to lift 50 pounds.
