Fabrication Lead

SBI Manufacturing is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Fabrication lead to join our dynamic team at SBI Manufacturing. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of metal fabrication processes, excellent leadership skills, and a proven track record of successfully managing and coordinating fabrication projects. The Fabrication Lead will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient production of high-quality metal products while leading a team of skilled fabricators. We are a small family-owned business which has steadily grown in size for over 17 years located on the south side of Sioux Falls, SD. Sioux Falls has been consistently one of the top 10 cities in the U.S. for livability.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of metal fabricators, welders, and technicians.
  • Delegate tasks, provide clear instructions, and ensure the team’s adherence to safety protocols and quality standards.
  • Foster a collaborative and positive work environment that encourages creativity, innovation, and continuous improvement.

 

Production Coordination:

  • Plan, schedule, and prioritize fabrication projects to meet production targets and customer deadlines.
  • Collaborate with engineering and design teams to interpret technical drawings and specifications, ensuring accurate implementation during fabrication.

 

Quality Control:

  • Oversee the fabrication process to maintain consistent quality and compliance with industry standards.
  • Conduct regular inspections, quality checks, and tests to ensure products meet or exceed customer expectations.

 

Equipment and resources Management:

  • Manage the utilization and maintenance of fabrication equipment, tools, and machinery.
  • Ensure that the fabrication area is organized, clean, and conductive to safe and efficient operations.

 

Process improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for process optimization, efficiency gains, and cost reduction within the fabrication department.
  • Implement best practices and innovative techniques to enhance the fabrication process and product quality.

 

Training and Development

  • Provide training and skill development opportunities to team members to enhance their technical expertise and proficiency.
  • Evaluate team members’ performance and provide constructive feedback, as well as initiate performance improvement plans when necessary.

 

Communication:

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including design, engineering, production planning, and quality control, to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Communicate project status, challenges, and progress to relevant stakeholders.

 

Qualifications and Skills:

Minimum of 5 years of experience in metal fabrication, with a proven track record of successfully leading fabrication teams.

Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.

Strong knowledge of various metal fabrication techniques, including cutting, welding, bending, and finishing.

Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.

Strong problem-solving abilities and a continuous improvement mindset.

Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

Proficiency in using fabrication software and tools.

Experience with lean or Six Sigma principles is a plus.

Working Conditions:

Working conditions for a Fabrication Lead include frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can also be loud.
